Amazing Antioxidant Berry Smoothie
Smoothies are perfect way to start the day, especially in summer. Honestly, I usually eat oatmeal topped with fruits, nuts and seeds in the morning, but sometimes I just prefer cold, delicious and healthy berry smoothie, full of antioxidants. This recipe is so easy and quick to make. I used blueberries and strawberries which are antioxidant packed, chia seeds full of omega-3 fatty acids, banana for creaminess and a little bit of water.
This antioxidant berry smoothie is also great breakfast when you are on the go. Actually it’s one of the healthiest breakfast options to take with you. You can add any fruit you want. I would add raspberries or blackberries too, but I didn’t have any at home.
If you want, you can add half of avocado for healthy fats. This way, smoothie will fill you up for longer.
Berries are one of the most nutritionally-dense fruits. They are packed with vitamins (vitamins B, C, K) and full of antioxidants. Antioxidants keep free radicals in check and fight inflammation. They help your body defend against bacteria and viruses. Berries are also great for your heart. Besides that, they protect the cholesterol from becoming damaged and lowers the blood pressure.
Berries also contains lots of fiber, which can decrease calories intake and help you lose weight.
Chia seeds are one of the super foods and there is reason for that. Chia seeds are full of omega-3 fatty acids. They actually contain much more of those omega-3 acids than salmon. They are also full of fiber. One tablespoon of chia seeds contains 5 grams of fiber. And the fibers are known to reduce the chance of cronic diseases. They also contain 2 grams of protein per tablespoon. In chia seeds we can also find antioxidants, which are very good for our blood cells and also our skin.
The combination of fiber and protein in chia seeds, plus the fact that they triple their size when you put them in liquid, contributes to feeling of fullness. That means chia seeds are also recommended to use in weight loss diets.
